Up to eight players can play against the House represented by the croupier (dealer), who spins the roulette wheel and handles the wagers and payouts. The rules between European Roulette and American Roulette are essentially the same except that American Roulette has 38 numbers with a single zero (0) and a double zero (00), where European Roulette only has 37 numbers with a single zero (0).
How to Play Roulette - Rules
Bets and chips are separated into inside bets and outside bets. For inside bets, each player is assigned a different color for chips and each player gets to pick his choice of denomination, usually from $0.50 to $100 per chip. The roulette chips for inside bets usually carry no value outside of the roulette table and cannot be used to play other games. For outside bets, the normal casino chips will suffice.
How to Play Roulette - Inside Bets
- Straight-up - bet on a single number
- Split - bet on two adjoining numbers - chip is placed on the line between two numbers.
- Street - bet on three numbers on a single horizontal line - chip is placed on the edge of the line
- Corner - bet on four numbers in a square layout (i.e.11-12-14-15)
- Six Line - bet on two adjoining streets
- Trio - bet on the intersecting point between 0, 1 and 2, or 0, 2 and 3 (single-zero layout only).
- Basket - bet on 0, 1, and 2; 0, 00, and 2; or 00, 2, and 3 (double-zero layout only)
- Top Line - bet on 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3 (double-zero layout only)

- First Half - bet on 1-18
- Second Half - bet on 19-36
- Dozen Bet - bet on 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36
- Column Bet - bet on the twelve numbers in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd vertical column

- Odd or Even - bet on Odd or Even numbers
